TPO 40 口语1-6题答案示范:

  Task 1

  Topic:

Talk about a country or culture that you would like to learn more about, what is the country or culture, and why you would like to learn more about it.

  Sample:

  Assertion:

Personally speaking, I want to learn more about the culture of America.

  Reason 1:

First of all, Since I’ve been to America several years ago when I was a teenager, the most impressive thing to me is that there are so many art and history museums in America, and most of them are free to the public. Which indicates that they value and appreciate their culture a lot. And this is also the first time I sparked my interest in this country.

Part 2:

And also, America is an immigrant country and it’s blended with cultures all over the world. Take the food as an example, if I’m hungry and wanna grab something to eat, I will have tons of options like taco from Mexico, Chinese food, Sushi from Japan and authentic kimchi and barbecue from Korea, as a foodie, this place is like a heaven to me!

Of course, there are lots of others reasons why I wanna know more about America, like I’m studying English and lots of my favourite songs, movies and TV episodes are from America, So ~ I can’t find a reason not to.

  Task 2

  Topic:

Talk about a country or culture that you would like to learn more about, what is the country or culture, and why you would like to learn more about it.

  Sample:

  Assertion:

Personally speaking, I do agree that the paper materials like books, magazines or

newspaper will be finally replaced by the electronic versions.

  Reason 1:

First of all, I think ebook is much lighter as well as more convenient when compared with paper-books. Cuz textbooks in schools are usually very heavy. If students have 3 or 4 textbooks in their backpack, it’ll be extremely heavy so some students will probably quit bringing textbooks to class, which is not going to be good for their academic performance.

  Part 2:

And also, using ebooks will be much cheaper. Although the price of textbooks in China is comparatively lower, students still have to spend a lot money every year on buying so many books. Well, it’ll be a different story when it comes to the price of textbooks in other countries like America or Canada, students usually have to pay 60 - 100 dollars for each textbook, so it’ll be a huge burden for those students come from families that are not that wealthy.

So … ~ these are the reasons why I think replacing paper books with ebooks will be a wise decision to make.

  Task 3

  Reading:

In the reading material, the university has decided to create a lounge for commuter students.

Firstly, it claims the this will give commuter students advantages that the dorm residents now have.

And also, there will be some bulletin boards that’ll post and share useful information to commuter students.

In the listening, the woman agrees with this plan for two reasons.

First, she says that the dormitories have their own lounges and just imagine how much time students are going to spend there and how many people they are going to meet in those lounge, it plays a central role to students. For example, the woman herself has met people who helped her with her school work in the lounge. And students who live off-campus can not have this advantage now.

Second, if there will be notices in the lounge, commuter students can get together and get some information about sharing cars to campus. The ride-share information can be really helpful cuz if the commuter students knew about the ride shares, they could save money getting to campus by travelling in one car.

Task 4

In this set of material, the reading passage talks about agonistic behaviour. Which means that to certain animal species, when conflicts arise over resources like territory or food, to resolve the conflict, the 2 animals of the same species will engage in this agonistic behaviour and have a fight against each other.

In the listening, the professor used the example of rattlesnake to illustrate this definition.

Rattle snakes usually eat small animals that live underground in small holes.

Once scientists witnessed this sort of encounter in the wild. They saw two rattle snakes found the same hole and both rattlesnakes wanted to eat whatever animal was in the hole.

Then the two rattlesnakes faced each other, lifted their body to an upright position, as tall as possible then started pushing and wrestling with each other. Each of the snakes wanted to get in control of the other. And the interesting thing is neither of the rattlesnake ever tried to bite or injure the other. And after a while, one finally gained control of the other and pushed and held it to the ground. The rattlesnake on top could have bitten the other but it didn’t, it just let it go. The one that had lost would slither away while the other went down into the hole to find food.

  Task 5

The woman’s problem is that she forgot that tonight is the night the theatre class is taking a trip to the city to see a play. Since her professor got free tickets, the whole class are going for free. But she has a big history class tomorrow morning and she really has to study for it.

And the first solution is that she can study for the history test when she got back from the play. And she can probably study on the bus.

And the section solution is that she can go by herself on another day so she can get a good night sleep before the test.

Personally speaking, if I were the woman, I will definitely choose the first solution cuz the other solution has a problem that she has to buy the ticket herself if she goes on another day, you know the play will only be free if she goes with the class tonight and the ticket can be very expensive.

And I think it’s not a big deal to study a bit on the bus on her way to the theatre and stay up late a little bit to study for the test when she got back. Since she doesn’t have to pay for the expensive play ticket and she might still have a good performance in the next day’s exam. I believe it’s gonna be worth it.

  Task 6

In this lecture, the professor talked about 2 strategies the sales people can use to address customer’s concerns about the products, cuz those concerns usually keep them from buying the product.

The first strategy is that they can point out something special about the product, something that will outweigh the concerns.

For example, if there’s a customer in an electronic store and the sales person is showing her a new computer. The customer may express her concern about the product that it is too expensive. It is true but the sales person can provide information to outweigh the concern by pointing out how fast the computer is and how much work it can get done in a short time.

The second strategy is that sales people can demonstrate the product by using it in front of the customer.

For example, the customer in the computer store may raise a concern that whether the computer is portable cuz it looks like difficult to pack and carry. And then the sales man can address this concern by unplugging the computer, putting it into the case and slinging it over his shoulder to demonstrate how easy it is to transport. And this will help eliminate the customers’ concerns about buying the computer.
